12 Days of Giving – Day 4: Goodwill Industries

Goodwill Industries International is highlighted in Day 4 of our #12DaysofGiving Celebration. Wiss is proud to highlight this organization that strives to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families.

Goodwill works to enhance the dignity and QOL for individuals and families by strengthening communities, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and helping people in need reach their full potential through learning and the power of work. Goodwill provides job training, employment placement services, and other community-based programs for people who have disabilities.

Goodwills aim to meet the needs of all job seekers, including programs for youth, seniors, veterans and people with disabilities, criminal backgrounds and other specialized needs. Just last year, Goodwill helped more than 26.4 million people train for careers in industries such as banking, IT and health care, to name a few — and get the supporting services they needed to be successful — such as English language training, additional education, or access to transportation and child care.

Take a look around your town or in various shopping center parking lots and you will notice Goodwill donation drop off sites. When taking on your Spring or Fall cleaning, consider collecting those items or clothing you no longer use and donate them as opposed to throwing them out. This year, with the help of donations, Goodwill has helped over 301,837 people get back to work. It’s those little things that take almost no effort that can make the biggest difference in somone’s life, and thats why we at Wiss decided to get involved!

Our New York and Livingston offices participated in a Goodwill Donation Drive over this summer. The goal was for our employees to fill the bins with clothing, electronics, shoes, décor, etc. for Goodwill to sell in their stores. The more donations we provided, the more Goodwill stores were created, providing job opportunities, and community building. Wiss’ HR Coordinator, Dylan D’Alessio shared, “It was an amazing sight when the bins were filled up almost immediately. Our team was not just cleaning out their belongings; they understood the importance of their donation. It’s such a simple task to take some time out of your day and in the end, it could mean all the difference in another family’s well-being.”

You, too can donate your items to Goodwill with in-office bins or by bringing your belongings to local donation sites. Learn more about Goodwill’s mission.
