WISS Awards Eight Scholarships to Accounting Students
August - The WISS Edward W. O’Connell Memorial Scholarship Fund recently awarded six $2,500 scholarships to graduating high school students majoring in accounting at an accredited four-year institution in New Jersey. The merit-based scholarships were awarded to applicants based on academic achievement, high school and/or community activities, work history, a response to a short essay question, and two letters of recommendation.
The six students will be attending Rutgers University, The College of New Jersey, Seton Hall University, Rider University, and Rowan University. In addition to the high school scholarships, two scholarships were awarded to college juniors major in accounting at Montclair State University and Kean University.
All eight students are this year’s beneficiaries of the growing success of the Scholarship Fund’s primary fundraiser, the WISS Edward W. O’Connell Memorial Golf Classic held every June. This year’s event, held June 16, 2008 at Essex Fells Country Club, raised more than $70,000.
Since its inception in 2003, the WISS Edward G. O’Connell Memorial Scholarship Fund has awarded 34 scholarships totaling more than $80,000 to young men and women pursing accounting degrees at New Jersey colleges and universities.
